Red Clover Trial Update
Red clover is probably the most reliable and consistent source of home-grown protein and can be grown over a range of soil types, in both organic and conventional systems. This flexibility provides an ideal opportunity for many farms to increase the protein level of the forage portion of the winter ration, reducing the need for bought in protein concentrate. Since Autumn 2010, Kingshay has been running comparative trials on eight varieties of red clover. This trial update is recommended reading for any dairy farmer considering planting red clover for home grown forage.
This Trial Update covers:
- Benefits and drawbacks of red clover for forage
- Two-year trial results of eight varieties
- Comparative annual yield, protein levels and crop value for each variety
Issued May 2013.
This Trial Update is only available to members.
