Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis (lepto) is a bacterial disease of cows which causes infertility, abortion storms, higher cell counts and lower milk yields.  It is believed that 60% of the national herd have been exposed.  Control of lepto is particularly crucial as it is zoonotic, so can be transmitted to humans.  Being aware of lepto will help you decide if test, vaccination or prevention programmes are worth considering.

Issued February 2017.
