Hoof Blocks Tried & Tested Report 2019
Many publications focus on the identification and prevention of lameness and much less emphasis has been given to the practical treatment of the animal once it has been identified as lame. Hoof blocks are routinely used as part of the treatment regime. In recent years, more hoof blocks and shoes have become available with innovative styles and materials being used. However, their efficacy has not been determined.
The aim of the Kingshay Tried & Tested Hoof Block Survey was to explore hoof blocking technique to establish an effective method of application. In addition to gaining a better understanding of the more popular types of blocks and shoes used on farm and evaluate their effectiveness in the treatment of lameness. This report highlights the results of the survey, together with the current knowledge around lameness prevention
