Milk From Forage Farming Note

With the rise in feed costs in recent years, utilisation of forages has become increasingly important to reduce volatility and maintain profits.

In May 2010, milk from grazing at Bridge Farm was 11 litres per cow, however by May 2011 a focused effort to improve grazing and reduce reliance on purchased feed enabled this to increase to 16 litres per cow. This Farming Note looks at how this improvement was achieved to increase the farm's milk from forage and lessons that can be implemented on other farms.
